The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Romania, Teodor-Viorel Meleşcanu, received today the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for International Affairs, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, and the accompanying delegation, on the occasion of the launch of political consultations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Romania in Bucharest on July 11-12, 2019.

The International Affairs Undersecretary conveyed the greetings of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, to his Romanian counterpart.

The meeting discussed the latest regional and international developments and ways to develop cooperation between the two countries in all fields to achieve the common interests of both countries and their people.

Dr. Shaikh Abdullah affirmed that the foreign policy of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Romania are similar regarding various Middle Eastern issues, as they both focus on enhancing international cooperation, sustainable development and supporting all efforts aimed at establishing peace and stability.

He also recalled his meeting with the Secretary of State for Bilateral Affairs at the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the sidelines of the 14th Manama Dialogue, commending the efforts of Romania while it presided the European Union in first half of 2019 to enhance security and international partnership.

The Undersecretary expressed Bahrain's keenness to further develop its relations with the Republic of Romania in various fields, including renewable energy, emerging industries, tourism, food, technology and others.

He noted that the Kingdom of Bahrain has an attractive business environment in light of the successful Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, which has strengthened the investment, diversified its national economy and provided various incentives that could benefit Romanian investments and companies.

Dr. Shaikh Abdullah added that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, has become a recognized international partner, in light of its commitment to international charters and laws, reforms, freedoms and sustainable development, as well as its support to noble human values, such as tolerance, peace and coexistence.

He added that the Kingdom of Bahrain places great importance on countering the threat of terrorism through a comprehensive approach, calling for concerted efforts to combat terrorism and end its funding.

The Foreign Romanian Minister welcomed the launch of the political consultations between the two countries, affirming his country's keenness to consolidate friendly ties and constructive cooperation with the Kingdom of Bahrain at all levels. He also wished the Kingdom of Bahrain further progress and prosperity.
