The total number of vehicles in Bahrain amounted to 768,564 vehicles by the end of 2018, revealed the latest official statistics issued by the General Directorate of Traffic.

The same official figures recorded more than 110 thousand traffic accidents.

The figures showed that the number of vehicles used and registered within the official authorities reached 718 thousand and 692 compartments with an increase of 4.5% compared to 2017. While the number of new vehicles reached 42000 and the canceled vehicles from the official records were around 9,426 vehicles with an increase of 23% compared to the latter year.

According to official statistics, the number of private vehicles at the end of last year amounted to 562,723 units, while the total number of driving licenses reached 58,854 licenses. 56 thousand of licenses are private licenses, 342 general licenses and 2387 were for motorcycles).

About accidents, the statistics showed that 1502 injuries (430 of them serious and 560 minor), 48 deaths and the total number of vehicles affected by these accidents was more than 109 thousand. It added that the number of pedestrian deaths due to those incidents was 14, passengers were 13 and drivers were 21.

The age group (less than 5 years) recorded about 57 deaths and injuries, while the number of cases of the age group (5-9 years) injured and died was about 134 (48 of them serious injuries). The statistics stated that the main causes of death were collisions with pedestrians due to driving without attention, not leaving enough distance while driving behind another vehicle, neglect errors and crossing traffic lights.
