A total of 763 street vendors’ violations were removed in the first six months of 2019, announced the Director-General of the Capital Municipality Council, Eng. Shawkiya Humaidan.
She stressed that the council has removed all irregularities and take the necessary legal action against violators.
Humaidan said that the municipality of the capital, under the guidance of the Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Eng. Essam bin Abdullah Khalaf, is intensifying campaigns against violating foreign street vendors who stand in the main streets in the capital.
The number of removed violations in January was 105, in February 127, in March 137, in April 110, in May 185, while in June the number reached 99. There is an increase in the number of removals for the month of May which coincided with the month of Ramadan, where this phenomenon is frequent during this period
Director-General of the Capital Municipality Council stressed the tightening of supervision and the organization of daily inspection campaigns on two morning and evening periods inside the old Manama market and in a number of main streets.
She noted that the municipality receives a number of complaints every day from citizens and residents concerning street vendors and the danger this phenomenon poses to roads and traffic. She assured that the municipality has developed a plan to remove these violations and to continue to fight this illegal phenomenon.
Humaidan called on all citizens and residents to cooperate with the Council for the common good and abide by regulations and laws that have been developed for the benefit of the people. She confirmed that such street vendors’ violations disrupt the interests of people and contribute to distorting the public view.
It is noteworthy that the Municipality of the Capital continues to work in the control of violators and take action against them based on Article (14) of the Law of Occupation of the highway issued by Decree-Law No. 2 of 1996, which authorized the municipality to remove works by administrative methods at the expense of the violator if the work is not licensed and breach of the requirements Organization, public health, traffic or the beauty of the landscape.
