Scores of people and community organizations in Bahrain have kick-started Onam celebrations. The Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) hosted its ‘Onam Palaharamela’ (Food festival) yesterday that saw enthusiastic participation from the community.

The event saw food stalls being set up with various delicacies and traditional food from different parts of Kerala. Stalls with every food imaginable, each stall was better than the other. Puttu, unniappam, illaiadda, payasam, kalathappam were served.

Some stalls even made red velvet cakes, chocolate cakes, cupcakes and several other mouth-watering desserts. The highlight of the evening was the arrival of Indian magician, chef, TV host Raj Kalesh making the event all the more exciting. The celebrity went around every stall interviewing participants and introducing their freshly cooked delicacies.

This year, Onam festivities will begin from September 1st until the 13th.

In addition to this, celebrity singers are set to enthral audience as BKS will be organizing ‘Sravanam 2019 - the mega Onam celebration’ with a multitude of sports, cultural and stage events.

A musical feast will be one of the highlights as renowned singers: Hariharan, Madhu Balakrishnan and Sithara will take to the stage. The Grand finale is scheduled on 27th of September which will conclude with a Musical event by playback singer K. S. Chithra, Harisanker and team.

Completions and various activities around the event began with Kabadi tournament. The celebrations will also see tug of war, hand wrestling and push up competition, pillow fighting competitions, cinematic dance competitions, pookalam competition, payasam competition to name a few. There are various competitions as well that are structured around the festival of Onam, that anyone in Bahrain can participate.

The formal inauguration of the Sravanam 2019 will be on the 19th of September. The Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam will be conducting an ‘Indian Traditional Costume Competition” held in connection with the Onam Celebrations which will take place on 23rd September 2019.
