The number of credit and debit cards transactions through POS platforms hit 47 million with a sales value of BD 1.6 billion since the beginning of 2019 until August, an increase by 40.87% compared to the same period in 2018 where the POS transactions recorded 33.4 million transactions of sales which rounded up to BD1.2 bn according to latest released report by the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB).

Data show that the number of credit and debit card transactions through POS platforms issued in Bahrain until August 2019 was 36.8 million transactions, compared to 26.6 million transactions in the same period last year, an increase of 38.42%, or 78.37% of the total number of transactions.

The volume of transactions through the payment of cards issued outside Bahrain until last Augusts was 10.2 million transactions, an increase by 50.52% with 6.8 million transactions until August 2018, while sales outside Bahrain filled about 21.6% of the total number of transactions.

Regarding the number of POS platforms, the data indicated that at the end of August 2019 they were 39,786 platforms compared to 33,716 at the end of August 2018.
