With the arrival of the first cruise ship “Mein Schiff 5” of the year at the port Khalifa bin Salman Port, expectations are high for a busy 2019-2020 maritime cruise season.

Khalifa bin Salman Port, operated by IBM Terminal Bahrain, witnessed a strong start of the season with the “Mein Schiff 5” cruise ship, carrying 2,351 passengers, and was received in a traditional way and greeted by Bahraini people.

Officials at the Khalifa bin Salman Port and IBM Terminal Bahrain stated that a total of 124,425 sea tourists are expected to arrive in the Kingdom between October 2019 and April 2020 on 61 cruise ships. They added that passengers on the “Mein Schiff 5” cruise ship also asked to extend their stay for three hours to give them a chance to enjoy a richer cultural experience in Bahrain.

“As the organizer of the infrastructure related to ports and maritime navigation, we are committed to ensuring the full readiness of Khalifa bin Salman Port in dealing with tourism activity and providing services to attract and promote maritime tourism to Bahrain. Our cooperation with IBM Terminals is an important factor in attracting cruise ships and strengthening Bahrain as a prominent tourist destination,” said Assistant Undersecretary for Port Affairs, Badr Al Mahmoud.

IBM Terminals Bahrain’s officials stated that the company celebrates 10 years of hosting maritime tourism in Bahrain, with more than 406,513 passengers and 230 cruise ships over the past five years.

They noted that this year, Khalifa bin Salman Port hosted the first summer cruise season from June to September. They assured that the holiday season witnessed the arrival of 4,938 passengers to Bahrain, which shows the activity of the tourism sector throughout the year and not limited to the winter months as in previous years.

It is noteworthy that cruise ships make Bahrain a tourist destination for all seasons of the year and for all ships roaming the GCC countries.
