The Foreign Affairs, Defense and National Security Committee approved a draft law to add a new article on information technology crimes submitted by the Shura Council.

 

In addition to the preamble, the draft law consists of two articles, the first article deals with adding on a new article stipulating that: Whoever commits or incites to commit any of the acts of cursing and defamation shall be punished by imprisonment and a fine not less than one thousand dinars and not more than fifty thousand dinars, or by one of these penalties as follow:

 

To prejudice the reputation of persons by defamation or insulting through the misuse of one of the means of information technology.
Defamation and harm to others using one of the means of information technology.

 

While the second article was executive:

The draft law aims to reduce the spread of cursing and defamation, insulting and harming private lives through information technology means.

 

The Committee recommended the following amendment to the article, a new article is added to Law No. 60 of 2014 on Information Technology Crimes, which reads as follows:

Whoever commits or incites to commit any of the acts of cursing and defamation shall be punished by imprisonment and a fine not exceeding twenty thousand dinars, or by either penalty.
