A scholarship scheme for children of economically-backward NRK’s and return emigrants has been launched. Norka Roots, the PSU under Non-Resident Keralites Affairs (NORKA) has intiatied this for children pursuing higher education, including postgraduate course and professional courses as well.

NORKA Roots welcomed application for Pravasi Scholarship Scheme for children of NRKs belonging to ECR (emigration check required) category having worked or working as Unskilled Labours, House Drivers and House Maids abroad. The annual Income of the Returnee Migrant (NRK) should be less than Rs. One Lakh.

The scholarship will be provided to eligible students who have joined PG courses (arts and science subjects), MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BAMS, BPham, BSc nursing, BSc MLT, engineering, agriculture and veterinary degree course in 2019-20 academic year.


“Contribution of the Non-Resident Keralities towards the socio- economic growth of Kerala is remarkable.  The key objective of NORKA ROOTS is to ensure NRK welfare and to serve as a single kiosk for all information pertaining to them. This government focuses on effectively using the vast experience and knowledge of the NRKs for the development of the state. Government is also committed to ensure that all necessary steps are taken to ensure the safe migration, dignified living and successful rehabilitation of the returnees,”  stated Kerala Chief Minister and NORKA chairman Pinarayi Vijayan.


The Scholarship shall be availed for maximum two children of NRK. The Scholarship is granted on the basis of the Percentage of Marks scored or Grade obtained in the Qualifying Examination. For applying Pravasi Scholarship in Post Graduate Courses in Science, Minimum 75% marks and for Courses in Arts Subjects, Minimum 60% marks has to be secured in the Qualifying Exam.

For applying Pravasi Scholarship in Graduate Courses, a Minimum of 75% mark has to be secured in the Qualifying Exam. Pravasi Scholarship is eligible only for Courses and institutions accredited by Universities in Kerala. The duly filled Application form along with the documents as prescribed has to be forwarded to the office of Chief Executive Officer, NORKA Roots, Thycaud Trivandrum 695014 on or before 30th November 2019.
