Minister of Works, Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning Essam Khalaf confirmed that the expansion of Tubli Water Pollution Control Centre (WPCC) will be completed by 2022 as the project is one of the major projects for the Ministry of Works.

"The work started three months ago at the site according to the project plan, we need three years to finish the project," the minister commented on the completion date of the project.

The Minister of Works said that the expansion project aims to increase the capacity of the station from 200 thousand cubic meters to 400 thousand cubic meters per day.

This expansion is the fourth expansion of one of the largest and oldest sewage facilities in the Kingdom since the plant was built in the early 1980s.

The expansion project is expected to cost BD 138 million, financed by the Saudi and Kuwait Fund for Development for Economic Development within GCC marshall-style aid package.
