The Comprehensive Inspection Center at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce & Tourism shut down a commercial store for food and tobacco, this was announced by the Ministry through its website and social media accounts.
It is noteworthy that a video by a citizen about the same point in the same stores went viral.
The Ministry said that the main reasons for the shut down were that the store violated Law No. 35 of 2012 regarding consumer protection as it hid and refrained from selling tobacco products to customers in order to resell them at a higher price. It added that this procedure and other necessary legal procedures were taken in accordance with Commercial Registration Law No. (27) for the year 2015.
The Ministry explained that it took the legal against the commercial store after receiving reports about it. Reported received, it added, stated that the store used to hide commodities, including tobacco products, in order to resell them at a higher price. This, it noted, was a clear violation of the laws and regulations in force in the commercial work in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The ministry assured that the store has been warned about the hidden goods, and after the follow-up and re-inspection which, it noted, approved non-compliance with the laws and consequently, legal measures were taken.
The center stated that this came in the framework of its continuous efforts to strengthen control over businesses and within its strategy of implementing a package of preventive measures and awareness through the comprehensive periodic inspection campaigns on shops in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
It stated that the aim of inspection campaigns is to verify and ensure the application of laws and legislation for business and to reduce violators and violations committed to ensuring a competitive and sustainable environment in the Bahraini market. The center urged all to report any violations through official communication means.
The ministry assured that it will continue its inspection campaigns and called for full compliance with laws, regulations, and regulations in the commercial sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain to avoid any legal consequences for violators. It called on all consumers to report any violations regarding concealment of goods, including tobacco products and price manipulation by calling the ministry’s call center at 80001700, or through the national system of suggestions and complaints (TAWASUL) or through the available communication channels of the ministry.
