An inclusive plan to address the phenomenon of stray dogs was reviewed. This was announced by the Animal Resources Agency and the Animal Protection and Environment Association on their social media accounts.
This came after a meeting between the Undersecretary Animal Resources Agency, Khaled Ahmed Hassan, with the President of the Animal Protection and Environment Association, Shaikha Marwa bint Abdulrahman Al Khalifa.
Many practical views and suggestions were discussed during the meeting to find a permanent solution for the spreading phenomenon of stray dogs and the best ways to contain the issue in the best way. They noted that they decided to form a joint committee to draft a new law to protect the community from stray dogs’ danger in the residential areas and public places.
They also discussed activating the role of civil society in the treatment process and effective participation in the implementation of the Agency’s strategic plan for the proper disposal of this phenomenon.
The community is in a dire need of a law regulating the acquisition of animals and establishing a mechanism for dealing with them. This is what we will work on in the committee in coordination with other municipal councils. We will follow it up with top officials until it becomes official
For his part, Head of Services and Public Facilities Committee at the Northern Municipal Council, Dr. Shubbar Al-Wedaie, stated that stray dogs phenomena need legislation that protects the community, especially that it started growing bigger in general and in residential areas in particular. He proposed to form a joint committee to draft a new law and legislation to protect society from stray animals.
The representative of the Northern Governorate Police, Captain Juhaina Abdulkarim, confirmed that the Ministry of the Interior will do its part as an executive body in accordance with the powers and laws organized in this regard.
