As part of continuing programs to assist Filipinos in distress in the Kingdom of Bahrain, a Christmas program was organized by the Philippines Embassy. The programme was held for overseas Filipino workers staying at the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Resource Center, as well as a number of those who once stayed in the shelter but have found new opportunities after being assisted by the Embassy.

A special Christmas party for the beneficiaries of the OPLAN KABATAAN program of the Embassy was also held to provide joy to the children being assisted for repatriation to the PHL. Oplan Kabataan is a flagship project of the Embassy to assist undocumented Filipino children here in Bahrain. It aims to bring these children home to the PHL to give them the opportunity to have access to education and quality health care.

A delegation from the Office of President Rodrigo Duterte led by Hon. Robert Eric A. Borje, Special Envoy to Tunisia, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of Bahrain and Chief of Presidential Protocol and Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs, as well as, a team from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) headed by Hon. Sarah Lou Y. Arriola, Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs, also joined the program that highlighted their 4-day mission to Bahrain.

Gift packages prepared by the Embassy were distributed to the shelter’s current and former residents, together with cash gifts from DFA-OUMWA through Usec. Arriola. Toys and other gift items were distributed to the children beneficiaries of OPLAN Kabataan and Jollibee organized games and gave out prizes for the children. The Office of the President through Chief of Presidential Protocol Borje also promised additional cash benefits for the beneficiaries.
