Over 17 Filipinos beneficiaries of the Philippine Embassy’s received their new Flexi permit cards. Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) headed by Hon. Sarah Lou Y. Arriola, Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs presented the cards.
Under this program, the Philippine government sponsored the Flexi Permit application fee plus the first two monthly fees of each beneficiary, whose Flexi permits provided them with a pathway to once again become regularized workers in Bahrain. This is in line with President Duterte’s directive for the government to exert efforts in regularizing the status of undocumented works in their respective host countries.
A delegation from the Office of President Rodrigo Duterte led by Hon. Robert Eric A. Borje, Special Envoy to Tunisia, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of Bahrain and Chief of Presidential Protocol and Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs, as well as, the team from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) headed by Hon. Sarah Lou Y. Arriola, Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs, also joined to celebrate with the Filipino community.
The following day, the delegation joined the Christmas community program organized by the Philippine Embassy in Bahrain. The event was marked with games, singing, dancing and a festive lunch for the wards at the Embassy shelter, patients with medical condition and children and their parents under the Embassy OPLAN Kabataan Program.
In view of the rights guaranteed to a child under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, particularly the right to be registered at birth, to have a name, to leave a country to be reunited with family and to have access to quality healthcare and education, the Embassy is launched its OPLAN KABATAAN Program to assist in the repatriation to the Philippines of these undocumented Filipino children in order to afford them access to quality education and healthcare.
