Bikes should be registered, annually insured and have blade numbers like vehicles. This was a proposal submitted by the head of the Northern Municipal Council, Ahmed Al-Kooheji.
He explained that his proposal, which requires that all bikes should have registration records in the General Directorate of Traffic, came after many bike-related accidents recently especially, he noted, the death of two people in two accidents on Budaiya Street in less than 24 hours last month during the popular celebration of the historic victory of the Bahrain National Football Team of the Gulf Cup.
It is noteworthy that the proposal received massive comments on various social media platforms. Many mocked the proposal while others thought it was necessary. Others stated that the municipal councils had more important issues to take care of or to discuss. Other comments added that the General Directorate of Traffic was the responsible authority which decides the importance of applying this proposal or not.
