The Inspection Department in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism supervised the operations of placing fruits and vegetables from the seized warehouses earlier this week at early hours of Thursday morning as the first batch of these products.
The Inspection Department also monitored the prices of fruits and vegetables in various outlets in the various governorates of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and stated that the markets witnessed a decrease in prices by about 30%.
Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, stressed that this is the first batch, and that all the seized products will be offered on a daily basis in the markets of the Kingdom of Bahrain upon market needs in the time frame followed and the prescribed market price, indicating that it was done preparing an integrated organizational plan for this purpose.
He added that the specialists of the inspection department were directed to be present on a daily basis in all local markets and different stores to monitor the flow of basic products and ensure their prices are stable and ensure their availability in the Bahraini market as promised.
He also stressed that the Ministry will not tolerate those who manipulate and exaggerate prices and limit the flow of basic food products with the maximum penalties, according to Law No. 35 of 2012 on consumer protection, expressing his hope that all merchants will cooperate in a manner that supports the availability of products, assuring the public that the Ministry is keen to make all efforts to provide sufficient quantities of these commodities to fully cover the needs of the local market and consumers.
