Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, participated today, via visual communication, in the 9th session of the ministerial meeting of the Arab-Chinese Cooperation Forum, which was held in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The virtual meeting was chaired by Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, in the presence of Councilor of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Wang Yi, in addition to Arab Foreign Ministers and Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs delivered a speech in which he pointed out that since the establishment of the Arab-Chinese Cooperation Forum in 2004, the Arab-Chinese relations have remarkably developed in all fields. He stressed keenness of the Kingdom of Bahrain to support the forum by hosting a number of its activities, including its 3rd session in 2008, the Arab-Chinese Cooperation Forum in the media field in 2010, and the 2nd session of the Chinese Arts Festival in 2012.
Dr. Al-Zayani noted development of the Bahraini-Chinese relations in the past few years, as the two friendly countries celebrated the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations in the past year. He also noted the opening of the Chinese Confucius Institute at the University of Bahrain in 2014, and the opening of Chinese Dragon City in Muharraq in 2015, highlighting the trade exchange between the two countries which reached about two billion dollars in 2019. He also affirmed keenness of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the friendly People's Republic of China to further bolster bilateral relations in all vital fields for the benefit of the two friendly countries. He reiterated Bahrain’s support to the "Belt and Road" initiative, adding that the Kingdom signed a memorandum of understanding to join this initiative in 2018, hoping that the coming years will show further Arab-Chinese cooperation in its implementation.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs added that the world now is facing many challenges that require concerted efforts, including mainly COVID-19 pandemic. He praised cooperation between the Arab League and the People’s Republic of China through remote meetings between health officials to help overcome the crisis.
The Foreign Minister also welcomed holding an Arab-Chinese summit, hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as the joint statement of solidarity of China and the Arab countries in combating COVID-19, the executive programme for cooperation between both sides and the Amman Declaration. He expressed keenness on more efforts to be exerted to foster cooperation and joint coordination between the Arab countries and the friendly Republic of China.
The Kingdom’s delegation participating in the meeting included the Ministry’s Undersecretary for Regional and GCC Affairs, Ambassador Waheed Mubarak Sayyar, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the People’s Republic of China, Dr. Anwar Yusuf Al-Abdullah, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Arab Republic of Egypt and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the Arab League, Hisham bin Mohammed Al-Jowdar and Director of Arab Affairs Ambassador Abdulaziz Mohammed Al-Eid.
