A second flight from Bahrain to Bhubaneswar has been scheduled on 11 July 2020 where over 150 Odias will fly home via New Delhi, on AI 0940 flight. The flight under the Vande Bharat Mission will charge a reduced fare of BD 126.
As many as 142 Odias stranded in Bahrain were repatriated last month. Many of them were construction workers unemployed owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, Bahrain Odia Samaj has been helping their distressed community members in providing essential food materials. The organization has distributed food kits and groceries to labour camps earlier while following the rules set by the authorities.
According to StarVision News, Bahrain Odia Samaj founder Dr Arun Kumar Praharaj said: “We are delighted that our repeated request to the government of India and State governments has been heard and the flight is provided at a reduced price at BD 126 (Rs 26,000) which is Rs 4000 less than the Rs 30,000 price of the earlier flight ticket”.
“This is a big relief to the stranded Odia migrants who have lost their jobs since last 4 months and surviving here with community support. We deeply appreciate and thank PM Narendra Modi, Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan Sir, Odisha CM Naveen Pattnaik, union civil aviation minister and Indian Embassy in Bahrain for their support” he added.
