Chairman of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCC), Sameer Nass, has recently participated in a virtual roundtable event organised by World Business Angels Investment Forum (WBAF).
The roundtable event was themed “Regional transformation of Gulf economies through entrepreneurship as a response to Covid-19”, and hosted key economic decision-makers in Bahrain in addition to over 400 participants from 29 countries. It deliberated about the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the economies of GCC countries, sectors hardest hit by lockdown measures, government policies and economic stimulus packages, and the measures needed for economic recovery.
Speaking at the event, Nass voiced pride in the Bahraini government’s swift response to the pandemic and methodical measures to ensure the safety of the people of Bahrain. He hailed its strenuous efforts to mitigate the pandemic’s impact on people and businesses by launching a number of stimulus packages and introducing fees exemptions. He also expressed pride in the close-coordination between the government and the chamber, which reflects the government’s confidence in the chamber as a representative of the private sector and a partner in drawing economic policies.
Nass spoke about the chamber’s efforts during this period, which included conducting studies and surveys on the economic impact of the pandemic, raising recommendations to the government, and participating in shaping the economic stimulus packages. He also highlighted the chamber’s efforts to raise the awareness of the private sector and encourage it to keep abreast of changes, by means of holding virtual training workshops and seminars, which centered on the transformation to E-commerce, the privileges and implications of cloud computing and Artificial Intelligence, the importance of revamping business models and ensuring efficiency and agility of operations.
BCCI Chief concluded by stressing on the challenges and opportunities of the post-Covid-19 period, and the pivotal role of the private sector in sustaining the development of the national economy.
