The Supreme Council for the Environment revealed a new ministerial decision from the Supreme Council for Environment on the prevention of the import of plastic waste, as well as a decision by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism on the specifications of plastic bags, which includes mandatory conditions to be biodegradable.

Studies show that the supply of plastic bags tends to disrupt the environment in a serious way when they get into the soil and slowly release toxic chemicals, therefore the plan came to reduce the number of bags used annually by the average shopper at markets and instead offer “bags for life” to use multiple.
