It would be one of the most frustrating nights for the fans of Chelsea. Manchester City absolutely mauled Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium. A tennis scoreline of 6-0 is usually reserved when teams in the lower half of the table are playing against a top team. But a Manchester City and Chelsea match producing a scoreline like this has surprised everyone.  Sergio Aguero was at his brutal best after bagging his 11th hattrick for Manchester City in the English Premier League.

City condemned Chelsea to its biggest defeat since a 7-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in April 1991. Chelsea under manager Maurizio Sarri are seriously struggling form as this result followed defeats of 4-0 at Bournemouth and 2-0 at Arsenal in their two previous away games. Raheem Sterling bagged two goals while Ilkay Gundogan scored one to complement Aguero’s hat trick. Chelsea looked hapless in the middle of the park as City raced to a 4-0 lead inside just 25 minutes.

City were dominant throughout the 90 minutes against Chelsea but they particularly looked devastating in the middle of the park. Chelsea rely heavily on the passing of Jorginho to dictate the play but Pep Guardiola put in a perfect plan to rattle the Brazil-born Italy international. The likes of Kevin De Bruyne closed Jorginho down or marked him out of the game when other players had possession of the ball, to which Chelsea had no response.

Premier League legend and the all-time top-scorer of the league, Alan Shearer also gave his view and agreed that the key to stop Chelsea is to rattle Jorginho in the middle of the park.

"They dominated Chelsea," said Shearer.

"Not only did they play their own game what was also impressive is the way they actually stopped Chelsea.

"If you stop Jorginho in the middle of the park you've got a very good chance of stopping Chelsea, and I thought they did brilliantly today. They set traps all over the park.

“If you want to give it to him then we're there, we're going to put him under pressure - and we'll capitalise. Instead, the ball goes wide. They win the ball back."

It was a hapless performance from Chelsea throughout the field as no player was able to impose himself on the game. Chelsea will now host Swedish side Malmo in the Europa League on Thursday Night at Stamford Brigde and would look to bounce back from the embarrassing loss to City.
