“The ministry is fully prepared with an emergency plan in case of having COVID-19 cases among workers,” the Director of Ports and Maritime Affairs at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, Mohamed Ibrahim Al-Hamidi, told Albilad Newspaper.
He explained that the through the plan, the ministry would be able to close the port operations and have the buildings sterilized with a reserve force through which employees can be replaced and operating within hours.
Al-Hamidi indicated, on the sidelines of a seminar that discussed maritime and land transport and government measures towards the COVID-19 pandemic, that the resumption of port traffic in case of any infection will be within 4 hours according to the plan.
The Director of Ports and Maritime Affair stressed that the smooth movement of goods through the port was a priority especially, he added, as it was a major tributary of the economic movement and the import and export movement in the country.
He emphasized that almost all procedures were completed at 100%, and that the ports worked to facilitate the movement of basic goods, including food, medical and other materials, especially during the holy month of Ramadan and the Eid Al-Fitr periods.
