Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for International Affairs Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa participated today in the meeting of the mini-committee of the international Anti-Daesh Coalition, which was held remotely.

The virtual session was co-chaired today by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Luigi De Mayo. A number of foreign ministers and senior officials representing member states also took part.

Dr. Shaikh Abdullah delivered a speech on behalf of Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, expressing Bahrain's pride in joining the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh since its foundation in September 2014.

He said that eighty-two countries and organizations have so far joined the coalition which, he said, reflects the firm commitment of the partners to this alliance to fight a common foe and make the world safer for everyone.

He said that the Daesh terrorist organization continues in secret to threaten global security, and to demonstrate its capabilities to adapt through an evolving structure, a transformed identity, and changing tactics to exploit situations and changes, as witnessed during the outbreak of the Coronavirus (Covid 19) pandemic, and its negative effects on the activity of the organization in Syria and Iraq.

He added that the international community is undoubtedly still facing the big challenge of ensuring that Daesh does not take advantage of the current situation and resume its activities in the future, calling for further consolidation and multiplication of individual and collective efforts and strengthening the electronic and communications infrastructure.

He stressed Bahrain’s keen interest in combating extremist ideologies and drying up the financing of terrorism through various government agencies, alliances, partnerships, institutions and international organizations concerned with this matter.

He asserted that Bahrain would continue to stand firmly with its allies and remain committed to working with partners to defeat Daesh or any threat to global peace and security.
