Undersecretary for Municipal Affairs Dr. Nabeel Mohammed Abu Al fateh, stated to Al-Bilad that the quantities of illegal shrimping are seized by the Coast Guards, thus they are transferred to the fish farming center in Ras Hayyan in order to feed the fish with them.
He stressed that this came after the recent increase in the seized of illegal shrimp fishing by the prohibited methods or during the ban period, and thus the seized shrimp is carried out by the Coast Guard, which coordinates with the Ministry of Municipalities on the mechanism of disposing it.
It is noteworthy that the ban period of shrimp fishing takes 6 months, from February 1 to July 31.
In this regard, the Coast Guard announced that the its patrols are continuing their efforts to address the violations related to fishing and the tools used to preserve the environment and marine wealth, indicating that these efforts resulted in the Maritime Operations Center monitoring a number of boats during February that were fishing using the banned trawling nets, which is forbidden.
The coast guard's ground support patrols managed to seize 3 vehicles and arrest 4 people with 1880 kilograms of shrimp in the landing area on the Sitra coast.
The deputy coast guard indicated that the necessary legal procedures have been completed in preparation for referring the case to the Public Prosecution.
